| This year the Mi 10, one of the leaders in smartphone imagery with its 108MP camera and 8K video, arrived in Mexico and joined with one of the greats in Latin American cinema: El Festival Internacional de Morelia (FICM). This festival is known as the ultimate summit for Mexican filmmakers, the international film community, and cinephiles from around the world. Along with the FICM and Xiaomi Studios, we launched the call for the “Lights. Camera. Action. Contest” where we invited film directors to create a short film with the Mi 10. The festival posted an open call on its official page, where they invited filmmakers to send in their demo reels in order to enter the first stage of the contest. Once the demo reels had been collected, a special committee composed of members of FICM and Xiaomi Studios reviewed the demo reels one by one and chose 3 winners to receive a Xiaomi Mi 10 to record a one-minute audiovisual piece with the theme: “Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen”. The winners of the first stage; Lucero, Mariano, and Daniel, had a week to create their short film and send it back to the FICM and Xiaomi Studios committee. The results were absolutely incredible. After hours of review, the final winner was chosen: Daniel and his short film, “La Piel de las Mandarinas”, giving him an opportunity to become a Xiaomi Studios Mi Creator as well as a creative fund of $5,000 USD to invest in his next film project.
